KILO

KILO was first discussed in mid 2010 as being a cool project in the workshop of RDG. Michael had been playing around producing some amazing private art works that featured almost cartoon versions of a character that featured the iconic Pacific Tiki. These contemporary images set the tone for Davids translation into stunning jewellery pieces.

KILO was a quantum leap of faith and required using traditional jewellery manufacturing to create a true work of fine art. The decision to fabricate KILO in pure Gold meant that new techniques had to be learned and practiced. That special fabrication methods had to be explored and that risks had to be taken.

The bullion was ethicaly recovered from New Zealand deposits and was assayed here in Auckland.

Standing at 14cm tall and weighting in at a little over a kilo he has truly amazing detail. His tongue and arms can be posed to allow his character to be expressed in greater depth and the soft luster of the pure 24ct Gold Bullion is to be seen to be believed.

So now KILO is complete, the end of a years planning, the end of three months of creative joy and angst.
